Brainspring White Papers:
Editorial Design
Overview
In 2025, Brainspring began regularly releasing evidence-backed research papers backing their courses and products. As these white papers were completely different from what Brainspring had produced before, I created new layouts, design elements, and type systems for these white papers. I developed new ways to represent Brainspring’s branding while still abiding by the company’s existing style guide and LXD Research’s ESSA Certification guidelines.

Typography
Typography became more important to this project than typical Brainspring publications as many of our established styles at Brainspring were created for textbooks and curriculum lesson plans. I created new typographic systems for these white papers that covered styles what we lacked; namely pull quotes, sub-headers, and references. In 2026 I created a slightly updated type system to better match upcoming materials and products.
Layout
My main goal with these layouts was to keep readers engaged. While the audience of these works are well educated folks interested in the topic at hand, most the pacing at which the audience reads is dictated by the paper’s layout. Large sections of research become easier to parse when graphics, images, and pull quotes were placed properly to enhance the research’s key points. My focus on pacing and carefully placed design elements made these white papers a success for Brainspring.
